The Huddersfield Wing Chun School opened in summer 2013 as part of the Northern Wing Chun Kung Fu Association. The school is run by Lee Maloney and Rik Garrad, senior students of Sifu Colin Ward, an Ip Chun-certified master of the art and a senior worldwide representative of grandmaster Ip Chun.
Lee and Rik are fully certified instructors with the Northern Wing Chun Kung Fu Association and are AMAA registered. Having trained both in the UK and in Hong Kong together they have over 27 years of martial arts experience, 20 of which have been dedicated to Wing Chun under Sifu Colin Ward.
Our aim is to teach and promote Wing Chun as taught by Grandmaster Ip Chun and Sifu Ward in an open, safe,relaxed and friendly environment. We are proud of our Wing Chun heritage and we look forward to passing on this special art over many rewarding and productive training hours together.
Lee Maloney
Having started martial arts training in his early teens, lee spent several years studying the Japanese art of Aikido and later Muay Thai boxing before finding Wing Chun in 2004. Since then he has been a dedicated practitioner of Wing Chun, spending many hours training privately with Sifu Ward. He has visited Hong Kong several times, training at the Ving Tsun Athletic Association where he was honoured to cross arms with Grandmaster Ip Chun. After becoming an instructor in 2009 his training with Sifu Ward continued and he opened the Huddersfield Wing Chun School in 2013 with his close friend and Kung Fu brother – Rik Garrad.
Rik Garrad
After studying karate and kick boxing Rik began his Wing Chun training in 2002 under Sifu Colin Ward. In 2005 he visited Hong Kong, training at the Ving Tsun Athletic Association where he was privileged to roll arms with Grandmaster Ip Chun. After a motor bike accident delayed his training he took extensive private tuition with Sifu Ward and became an instructor in 2012. In 2013 he opened the Huddersfield Wing Chun School, now a permanent, custom build facility for Wing Chun training. Rik continues to study under Sifu Ward, he is a passionate teacher and practitioner of Wing Chun Kung Fu.
